I am also a Linux user and would really like to see Garmin provide support for Linux users. Hopefully us posting here is the start of a good business case ;)

I would very much enjoy a Linux version of Garmin communicator firefox plugin. I really have to go out of my way to download geocaches from geocaching.com to my Legend HCx. If there are any fixes anyone knows about, it would be much appreciated.

I really want to buy a Garmin Nuvi, but I can't fork over the cash for it when I know there is no linux support. I can't imagine buying a GPS unit and not having the ability to upgrade the firmware. Just a .deb or even a nice tar would push me right over the line! Please, Garmin, I want you to have my money. Why won't you take it?

Another vote for some degree of linux based support. Hearing that you guys released the source code for the nuvi 5000 absolutely drove my decision to purchase the device. I only assumed some basic sync/update tool would be available... I'll eventually work something out, but simple out-of-the-box map update support would have been a nice gesture.

And for yet another compelling reason to offer linux support despite its less than stellar market share, let me ask you this: who exactly do your marketing folks think the "influencer" within your customer's peer is when it comes to high end devices? That is, who are the people most like to influence a potential customer's purchasing choices? When it comes to this most coveted form of advertising--word of mouth marketing--respected peers always matter...and there's always that one guy who can be found on every floor of every office in every business park throughout the entirety of the corporate world... the one token, lovable, resident geek to whom most everyone defers for gadget, software, and electronic related advice and whose off handed comments around the water cooler can influence high end gadget purchases of those in the office for entire shopping seasons. And this is the guy...the one guy in fifty who's using linux...and he's a guy who holds more influence over customers buy decisions than you could ever hope to achieve.

I'm looking for Linux support, too. I wanted to get map updates, but I can neither register nor use the Windows-only Firefox plugin from Linux. My 750 has an SD card reader. Can I do a map update with an SD card?

Linux support should be great anyway! I use two Garmin devices: Nuvi 610 and GPSMAP 60CSx but still have to ask my friend to update the firmwares under windoze... :-( Well, published specs of firmware update stage could be enough at least for me.
